Blocked Drains Bucklow Hill?
DHC provide a full blocked drain emergency call out service in Bucklow Hill and the surrounding areas. You can get urgent drain assistance now by calling 07753 259 174 and we can be at most addresses in under 15 minutes.
Blocked drains have a few obvious tell-tale signs such as bad smells, no drainage to flooding in the worst cases, but there are also less obvious signs. Slow draining water and odd noises in your drains are two early signs of a potential problem we recommend clients look out for.
While you may look to fix your indoor plumbing with plungers and chemicals, once the outdoor drains become blocked it is time to call in one of DHC’s drainage specialists.
Trying To Stop Blockages?
We adopt a ‘prevent is better than the cure’ approach at DHC so we always stress the importance of being mindful of what goes down your drain. The common causes for blockages in your outside drains usually come down to three areas and their misuse:
- From the Kitchen:
- Food waste such as vegetable scraps
- Coffee grounds or tea leaves
- Traditional soaps (which contain greases and fats)
- From the bathroom:
- Feminine hygiene products
- Non-flushable paper
- Traditional soaps (which contain greases and fats)
- Excessive amounts of dirt
- Outside the property:
- Tree roots
- Excessive garden waste such as leaves and soil.
Whilst it’s impossible to completely control everything that goes down your drain, by being aware of these key culprits we aim to reduce our clients exposure to future blockages and keep things working normally.
How Winter Is Worse
The colder, wetter months in winter and autumn put additional strain on drains. Problems to be aware of during this time include:
- Freezing and thawing of pipes resulting in breaks and cracks
- Ice build-up catching waste
- Fat and oil solidifying in pipes due to the cold weather
Coupled with heavy rainfall, unmaintained drains can quickly become overwhelmed and problems arise.
Ways to stop blocked drains in Bucklow Hill
Unsurprisingly, many of our customers rarely think about their drains until there’s a problem. The problem is, when a blockage occurs you might not have long until a small problem quickly becomes a more serious one in the form of overflowing drains and flooding.
Regular drain maintenance can help avoid these issues however by catching problems early. The cost and hassle of a yearly check-up is also far less then when problems develop into a serious issue.
Partially blocked drains, or ones in need of maintenance, will continue to allow water to drain away overtime. This makes them harder to spot but there are signs to look out for however;
- Slow draining, or standing water
- Unpleasant smells from the drains
- Noises when water drains away can suggest blockages further down the pipe
Bucklow Hill Blocked Drain Case Study
A Local Drainage Specialist with Local Knowledge
Something we see as really important when treating blocked drains is local knowledge. Each area of Manchester was built at different point in its history resulting in different methods of installing drains at the time. By having a knowledge of the area we have a far better understand of what to expect and how to fix problems quickly.
Below is an example of how we fixed a blocked drain for one of our customers in Bucklow Hill.
How did it start
We received a message from our site regarding a drainage issue Bucklow Hill where a home owner was concerned about bad smells and slow drainage at their property. They asked for some advice and if we’d come to inspect the problem in person.
Fixing the problem
Now we knew what we were dealing with we proceeded with another no-dig approach to fix the drain. Using drain jetting we were able to dislodge the build-up of waste.
Identifying the problem
From what the client we suspected a blocked drain but before carrying out any work we needed to know where the blockage was and how it had occurred. Both needed to be answered to ensure the correct solution was employed.
To do this we used CCTV. This meant we could also avoid any digging, something the client was keen on due to their drains being under their lawn. All we needed access to the manhole on their property.
The CCTV survey identified the culprit of the blockage. Leaves and soil had clogged up the drain after some heavy rainfall.
The blockage of the drain at the Bucklow Hill property was identified and removed, returning the drain to full, free flowing working order again.
As with the CCTV survey, the drain jetting was also completed with no digging required, leaving the customer lawn untouched.
